Joss Whedon and his alleged abusive behavior came to the spotlight again as Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor dropped details on the accusations.
James Marsters, the star of the series made by Joss Whedon, broke his silence on the toxic workplace allegations against the director.
In an interview with Inside of You, Marsters detailed his own experiences of Whedon’s abuse. He also witnessed the filmmaker exploiting other Hollywood stars.
He did not mention whether it was the environment on Buffy the Vampire Slayer that became abusive. However, he disclosed his own experiences with Whedon.
One of the incidents involved Whedon pushing him against a wall and yelling at him repeatedly. The director repeatedly told him he was dead regardless of his current ranking in the industry.
“Two things: first, I kind of thought of him as a mad — as a wizard — like, able to create magic and here’s another amazing thing. But also like, you know, ‘don’t piss off gandalf’ because he might snap,” he said.
It was not the first time he ever spoke about Whedon and how the filmmaker abused his power.
Earlier this year, he posted a cryptic tweet on Twitter to express his heartbreak over the hostile and toxic work environment Whedon made.
“While I will always be honored to have played the character of Spike, the Buffy set was not without challenges,” he said. “I do not support abuse of any kind, and am heartbroken to learn of the experiences of some of the cast.”
More stars reveal stories about Whedon
His comments followed Charisma Carpenter’s statements against Whedon. The actress, who starred on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Cordelia Chase, penned a lengthy statement to address the repeated firing threats she suffered from him.
Carpenter also revealed how he tried alienating her from her co-stars.
Like Marsters, the 50-year-old actress thought the director abused his power and found his misconduct on set amusing.
Unfortunately, the incidents only caused her physical condition she still suffers from even after nearly two decades since the events.
In one instance, Whedon even questioned her if she would keep her baby before calling her fat in front of her castmates during her pregnancy.
“He proceeded to attack my character, mock my religious beliefs, accuse me of sabotaging the show, and then unceremoniously fired me the following season once I gave birth,” she continued.
More Buffy stars came forward and shared their support toward Carpenter, including Amber Benson, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Eliza Dushku.
