Karen Gillan is not yet ready to let go of her role as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
As one of the cast members of the growing franchise, Karen Gillan surely found more life playing Nebula’s role.
Still, everything has an ending. In recent months, the Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn said that the third film will be the last one. Even Dave Bautista shared the same sentiment as some of the original cast members might retire soon.
Despite the continuous expansion of the franchise, some characters still have not received enough spotlight. For instance, most Guardians of the Galaxy members are yet to tell their whole stories, including Nebula.
Following the announcement of a possible ending, Gillan recently expressed her desire to continue being part of the MCU. She added that she wants to do the role even outside Guardians of the Galaxy.
As quoted by Screen Rant, the 33-year-old actress claimed that she became obsessed with the character ever since she began playing the role.
“I just get such a kick out of playing a character that’s really removed from myself. But I also feel really emotionally invested in her through everything that she’s gone through with Thanos and all of that,” she said.
Because of this, she aims to continue playing the character. But she also noted that continuing Guardians of the Galaxy without Gunn and Bautista would surely feel different.
Who Will Leave Guardians of the Galaxy?
Before Gillan shared her comment, Bautista became the first one to hint about his future in the next Guardians of the Galaxy film.
“Drax isn’t going anywhere,” he said. “He just won’t be played by this dude!”
Gunn replied to the tweet and said there would be no Drax without him. He also told him that no one can ever replace him.
It was not the first time he talked about leaving, though. In 2018, tweets against Gunn surfaced. The actor then defended the filmmaker and threatened to leave the franchise because of the issue.
He also told AsiaOne that Gunn was wrongfully attacked.
“It’s something I’ve always done all my life. What kind of friend are you if you’re not defending your friends who are under attack? And the answer is, you’re not a friend,” he went on.
As of the writing, Marvel Studios has not confirmed whether his departure will truly happen.
