Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle wore Queen Elizabeth’s most hated item

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have different tastes in fashion but both wear Queen Elizabeth’s most hated item multiple times.

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have different preferences when it comes to their wardrobe. However, both duchesses have worn the footwear that the Queen disapproved of.

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle wear wedges

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle both love to dress elegantly and comfortably. Wedges offer both fashion and comfort and the two duchesses know this.

Middleton wore a pair of wedged shoes when she welcomed the Queen at Chelsea Flower Show. Several were surprised by her choice of footwear because according to Samantha Leal of Marie Claire, the Queen is a “notorious wedge-hater.”

Middleton repeated the same fashion choice when she visited the “Back to Nature” festival in Woking, Surry in September 2019.

She paired her Emilia Wickstead floral dress with her signature curls in middle part style and accessorized with gold dangling earrings. She also wore a pair of wedged shoes.

According to Express, Middleton ignored the Queen’s rules and risked herself from the monarch’s wrath.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle did the same when she kicked off her South Africa tour with Prince Harry in September 2019. The duchess visited Cape Town wearing a gorgeous pair of Carina wedge espadrilles.

Queen reportedly hates wedge shoes

Although many would probably approve of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle wearing wedged shoes, the Queen would certainly have a different opinion.

“The Queen isn’t a fan of wedged shoes,” an insider told Vanity Fair. “She really doesn’t like them and it’s well known among the women in the family.”

There were speculations that the Queen disapproved of wedges because they remind her of “austerity and rationing during the war.”

Among the things that were not rationed at the time was cork and people used it to make their own shoes. It had to be a wedge shape because the cork was too soft to make a separate sole and heel.

Meghan and Kate’s secret for enjoying their footwear

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have different fashion hacks to enjoy their footwear.

The Duchess of Cambridge uses Alice Bow insoles to comfortably wear heels all day. The company offers a solution to ugly and ineffective insoles. Furthermore, Alice Bow offers foot care products like foot massage rollers to soothe and detox tired feet.

On the other hand, Markle opts to wear bigger shoes. Prince Harry’s wife prefers footwear that is one or two sizes larger than her actual size to avoid blisters and discomfort.

“Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they’re at an event or on the red carpet and it’s for one reason we can all relate to – to avoid blisters,” Harriet Davey said.
