Kate Middleton and Prince William are reportedly under pressure after Queen Elizabeth II canceled one of her engagements following the recent health scare.
Kate Middleton and Prince William are only second in line to the throne. However, they are reportedly under pressure to step up after the Queen pushed back with some of her engagements.
Kate Middleton and Prince William under pressure rumors
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were spotted with their three kids at Heathrow Airport. The family of five was prepping to jet off on holidays while the Queen continued with her public service.
However, the 95-year-old monarch decided to cancel her attendance at the climate change summit Monday on medical advice. It was later announced that Prince William and Kate Middleton will attend in her place.
According to Express, the Cambridges are feeling the pressure as the Queen prepares to take the backseat.
“Prince William is one of the royals that’s really stepping up and taking charge of these royal duties,” royal expert Natalia Oliveri told Today Extra. “Apparently he is taking charge of the Balmoral and Sandringham estates in the Queen’s absence.”
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles will also be in attendance. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will be there to cement the presence of the royal family for the international summit.
Queen will no longer do solo royal events
Queen Elizabeth II spent a night at the London hospital last week. She also had to cancel her trip to Northern Ireland. After just a couple of days, she returned to “light duties.”
However, following the Queen’s health scare, the royal family decided on a new model. They would not allow the Queen to make solo royal duties. Her Majesty will always be accompanied by a senior royal in her future public engagements.
The new arrangement would allow the Queen to get the chance to rest and cancel engagements without disappointing the public with a complete royal no-show, The Telegraph reported.
An anonymous source told U.K.’s The Times that it is not uncommon for the Queen to be accompanied by family members. So, the new arrangement is not brand new.
According to an unnamed insider, Prince William and Middleton were both keen to support the Queen. In fact, they are ready to represent her on her engagements if needed.
Queen Elizabeth II did not attend a church service Sunday. Also, her attendance in her future engagements remains uncertain because her doctors urged her to rest.
