Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle received different favors from Queen Elizabeth II. One of them waited longer to score a solo engagement with the monarch.
Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have different experiences after joining the royal family. One of them was ready to hit the ground running. Meanwhile, the other had a slow start.
Kate Middleton waited longer than Meghan Markle for a special favor
Kate Middleton had a slow evolution after joining the family, in contrast to her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle.
For instance, Middleton only scored a royal engagement with the Queen in 2012. That was over a year after she exchanged “I do’s” with Prince William.
On the other hand, Markle enjoyed the same honor in less than a month from becoming an official member of the Firm. She became an official member on May 19, 2018, after her royal wedding to Prince Harry.
Markle’s first outing with Her Majesty
Meghan Markle didn’t wait long to accompany the Queen for a solo outing. On June 14, 2018, just weeks after her royal wedding they went out together.
The Duchess of Sussex accompanied Her Majesty to Chester. The Queen officially opened the Mersey Gateway Bridge and Chester’s Storyhouse Theatre.
They also attended a lunch at Chester Town Hall. It was Markle’s first engagement with the monarch without her husband, Prince Harry.
According to Michelle Tauber, senior editor of People, Markle’s solo appearance with Queen Elizabeth II was historic for two reasons.
“Meghan’s first solo appearance with the Queen was a really historic moment. First of all, it happened very early in the marriage to Prince Harry. Kate waited much longer for her first solo appearance with the Queen,” the royal correspondent said.
“Second of all, Meghan got an extra special honour, which is the Queen invited her to join her on her private train to travel to Chester.”
Kate Middleton’s outing with the Queen
Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II made their first joint engagement in 2012, it was over a year after she married Prince William. They visited De Montfort University for their first joint engagement.
During their visit, they watched a dance performance and witnessed a fashion parade at the university.
After seven years, Middleton scored another solo engagement with Queen Elizabeth II. Prince William’s wife accompanied the monarch to the opening of the Bush House.
It was previously BBC World Service headquarters. The place has been leased by King’s College London, of which Queen Elizabeth II is a patron. That’s why they were invited to its opening.
