Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise allegedly had a strange wedding, and the bride sparked concern after arriving late in the ceremony.
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise tied the knot in 2012. However, according to Mirror, the former couple had a bizarre marriage, which started from their wedding.
Katie Holmes arrived late on her wedding day
Katie Holmes allegedly kept his groom and the wedding guests waiting on her big day. The Dawson’s Creek alum sparked concern, with some wondering if she would arrive or not because she was almost half an hour late.
Tom Cruise reportedly stood at the altar grinning without a bride. He had “that everything-is-great look plastered on his face even as the crowd grew uncomfortable,” Leah Remini, a former Scientology member, wrote in a tell-all book.
The A-list guests were already wondering if Holmes would still arrive. Jennifer Lopez allegedly asked about the bride.
“Do you think Katie is coming?” Lopez asked.
Tom’s weird Scientology wedding vows
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise married in a Scientology ceremony. During their wedding ceremony, the minister read out the special vow that the Mission Impossible actor allegedly had to agree to provide to Holmes throughout their marriage.
“Girls need clothes and food, tender happiness and frills, a pan, a comb, a cat,” reads the line.
Strange wedding favors
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise also had unusual wedding favors. Instead of having the usual hangover “cures,” confetti, and sugar almonds, the then-couple opted to give their guests a pair of £550 Chrome Hearts sunglasses.
The bride and groom ordered the shades at the London store Mallon & Taub. They paid for £100,000 for their wedding favors alone.
Cruise also hired a fleet of limousines for their A-list guests that included Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham, John Travolta, and more.
Marriage lasted only for six years
Although Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s wedding was not the usual, it was still a grand wedding fit for a celebrity. However, their union only lasted for six years.
To the surprise of many, including Cruise, Holmes filed for a divorce and immediately moved to New York City with their daughter in 2012.
In 2013, when Cruise was promoting his film Oblivion, the actor admitted that he didn’t expect Holmes’ move.
“I didn’t expect it,” Cruise said per CBS News.
“Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humor.”
Following Holmes’ move, Cruise did not only lose his wife but child, too. According to reports, he has no relationship with his daughter.
In 2019, tabloids claimed that he had not seen Suri for six years already. According to Samantha Domingo, a former follower of The Scientology, Cruise is not allowed to have a relationship with his daughter because she’s not a Scientologist.
However, the church’s spokeswoman denied Domingo’s claim. The rep called her statement “fiction.”
“Everything about your inquiry misrepresents the Church of Scientology, its practices, and the lifestyle of its ministry,” the spokeswoman said.
