Katy Perry revealed her could’ve been Met Gala outfit that paid homage to a Madonna Gaultier classic—which also highlighted her baby bump.
American Idol judge Katy Perry could not contain her blues about the canceled Met Gala 2020. On Monday, which was supposedly the day of the star-studded social event, the Firework superstar shared a snap of her supposed themed attire.
Katy Perry’s Met Gala outfit
Like all other celebrities who already prepared for the supposedly highly-anticipated Hollywood event, Katy Perry flaunts her Met Gala ensemble.
The 35-year old pop star went on Instagram and posted what she was going to wear to the Met Gala 2020.
“What would have been… #TheMetBall2020,” Perry captioned her stunning outfit on Instagram this Monday.

For this year’s Met Gala, Perry was going to wear an extravagant work of the French designer Jean Paul Gaultier.
The outfit was designed with a rose-gold colored cone bra with a big belly plate to support her stomach. The circular piece was molded in a way that should have highlighted her baby bump.
Perry’s Met Gala outfit was inspired by Madonna’s iconic cone costume, which was also designed by Gaultier. Madonna had the same iconic cone bra in the same color from which she wore in 1990. It was the Queen of Pop who debuted the French designer’s work in one of her shows in Japan that year.
The Madonna-inspired cone bra could have made Perry the eye-catcher of the night, as she has been known to have extravagant outfits in the past years. In last year’s Met, she shut everyone out with a large and stunning chandelier costume.
She also shocked everyone when she changed into a hamburger look later on that evening. Both outfits were designed by Moschino’s designer Jeremy Scott.
Met Gala 2020
Celebrities and fashion designers usually get busy in preparing for the Met Gala during the first week of May. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing global pandemic, the event organizers had to call off the prestigious event this year.
The Met Gala 2020 was supposed to happen on May 4.
For this year’s supposed star-studded event, the theme was “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” The event was also set to be hosted by Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Nevertheless, Met’s event organizers thought of an alternative to keep the spirit of the Met Gala alive despite the pandemic and hosted a YouTube live stream. The live stream was entitled “A Moment With the Met.”
Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour led the live stream on Monday night. The online event also featured a DJ set from Virgil Abloh, Cardi B, and Florence Welch.
