Keanu Reeves praised the safety protocols in place on The Matrix 4 production amid the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Filming for the much-awaited fourth movie installment started in February but halted in March due to the coronavirus outbreak. But after about four months, cameras once again started rolling, and Keanu Reeves and the rest of the cast were back on set.
The ‘alive and well spirit’ on The Matrix
In a virtual interview with Associated Press, Reeves talked about the film’s production amid the pandemic.
“There’s some really thoughtful, effective protocols in place, and the rhythm of filmmaking has not really been impacted or interrupted,” he said.
“I think everyone loves the project,” he added. “If you’re ever going to get into any kind of situation that needs to be figured out, or ‘How do we do this?’ Show business people are the best.”
Reeves continued saying they are all scrappy, know how to get things done, inventive, think on their feet, and have a kindred spirit that all come together.
“It goes back to like, you know, ‘Let’s put on a show!'” he went on to say. “We’ll get some props, we’ve got some things, we’re going to write!”
Reeves proudly said that “spirit” is “alive and well” on The Matrix.

Fans may not see Morpheus on The Matrix 4
Aside from Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss will also make a triumphant return to The Matrix 4. But, it looks like Laurence Fishburne will never be a part of it.
In a different interview with New York Magazine, via The Wrap, the 59-year-old actor revealed he was not invited to reprise his iconic role in the new movie.
“I have not been invited. Maybe that will make me write another play,” he said. “I wish them well. I hope it’s great.”
The film director knew that fans would best remember him as Morpheus from the original The Matrix trilogy.
“It is probably the role that I’ll be best remembered for, which is great,” he said. “It’s not the only thing I’ll be remembered for, which is better.”
Details about The Matrix 4 remain under lock and key. The Wrap noted it might continue the story of the original trilogy, but it remained to be seen if it would pick up the last movie’s events.
One reason Fishburne might not return to the sequel was he died of gunshot wounds in The Matrix Online. However, there were theories that his death was faked.
