Kelly Clarkson unleashes inner Whitney Houston during 2020 Billboard Awards

Kelly Clarkson came back to the 2020 Billboard Music Awards as host, but there was a twist!

This year’s Billboard Music Awards saw a different Kelly Clarkson as she gave life to Whitney Houston.

For three consecutive years of hosting the event, Clarkson received praise from viewers. This year, she wowed the crowd again with her rendition of Houston’s Higher Love.

Soon after opening the award show, Sheila E. and Pentatonix joined her on stage.

After her heartfelt performance, the talk show host even joked about being her own hype-woman since no one was there to cheer her up.

Indeed, no live audience was accepted inside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Other performances

Aside from Clarkson, Billie Eilish also grabbed another recognition as she bagged the top Billboard 200 trophy at the award show.

The young singer performed her hit songs When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?.

The same song grabbed the biggest prize during Grammy Awards in January 2020.

After her performance, she expressed her gratitude toward her fans for believing in her and caring for her. Eilish also said that she never takes anything for granted when it comes to winning such an award.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, she had to keep wearing her mask as she made her speech inside the empty venue.

Meanwhile, Lizzo also joined the party by wearing a black dress with the word “vote.”

Aside from performing, she let out of a speech encouraging everyone to speak up and not try hard just to fit it in and meet society standards.

Meanwhile, Luke Combs also spared a moment and delivered his positive speech during the show.

“I know what everybody has been through so much this year,” he said. “I wanna thank the crew that is working on this show tonight because they have gone through some insane stuff to make this happen for you guys.”

John Legend’s emotional performance

Amid his recent loss, John Legend played the piano and dedicated his 2020 Billboard Music Awards performance to his wife, Chrissy Teigen.

Before singing Never Break, he proclaimed that the number was for Chrissy. The two recently went through a hard time after the matriarch announced that they lost their third child.

“John, that was so beautiful,” Clarkson said. “All my love to you and Chrissy.”
