Kelly Clarkson does not want to carry something on her shoulders as she tries to move on.
A new request, filed by Kelly Clarkson, indicated her desire to reach the final stage of her divorce. She, reportedly, wanted the judge assigned to them to finally grant her a new, legal status.
Through her attorney, Laura Wasser, Clarkson requested to settle the remaining parts of the divorce process at a later date. However, multiple news outlets revealed that her future ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, contested her wish.
A decision on the matter is yet to be publicized, but the finalization of divorce may end their worsening relationship.
What happened between Kelly and Brandon Blackstock?
Last year, the singer alleged through court documents how her husband and his company defrauded her. Clarkson said that Blackstock charged her excessive fees that were considered a large sum of cash.
According to American Idol champion, her ex-husband never got a proper license to operate as a talent agent. She spent 13 years of her career with Blackstock’s Starstruck Entertainment.
The company’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, said that Clarkson’s petition never mentioned she had her talent agency. He added that Blackstock’s company handled her without knowing about her agency’s existence.
“It is unfortunate that Kelly is again attempting to avoid paying commissions that are due and owing to Starstruck to try and achieve some perceived advantage in her ongoing custody and divorce proceedings,” Freedman went on.
In September, Starstruck sued her for not paying over $1.4 million commissions and fees.
Per Variety, the Because of You hitmaker failed to pay 2020’s full commissions. This includes her works on The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Voice.
Amid these legal issues, they agreed to have a plan for the custody of their children, River Rose, and Remington Alexander. A judge gave Clarkson the primary physical custody temporarily.
How divorce helped Kelly Clarkson with her career
Clarkson’s divorce from Blackstock brought positive effects on her, especially on her career.
Since filing for divorce, she revealed that she already wrote around 60 songs. Clarkson told Entertainment Tonight that the recent struggles boosted her creativity even more.
“It is an insane amount of getting it out. I think that’s a blessing in itself. It’s such an awesome thing to have that outlet, regardless of whether people hear it or not,” she said.
Kelly Clarkson just renewed her show’s contract under NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, extending its life for two more years.
