Kevin Durant will reportedly be used in all five positions throughout the games according to Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash.
This year, just like any other year, has been plagued by injuries on big name players. Players like Ben Simmons and Kristaps Porzingis were sidelined late in the Playoffs and were eventually declared out for the season.
However, there are two names out there that could potentially change the entire landscape of the NBA next year. Unfortunately, for the rest of the league, the two names are Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. These two players were out for the majority of the games.
Next season, they will look to wreak havoc in regulation.
Kevin Durant will be used in all five positions
The Brooklyn Nets hired Steve Nash who will man the offense of the team not on the floor but from the sidelines. He will have to balance the potent playing style of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Both players will take turns handling the ball, is most likely to happen. Nash said,
“Kevin, with his length, is a matchup problem for everyone. Kevin can play all five positions, and I plan to use him in all five positions.”
It’s a scary idea, but this is not something that the league hasn’t seen before. Jason Kidd also used the same strategy with Giannis Antetokounmpo. It wasn’t perfect, but it showed so much potential nonetheless. The only roadblock that Kidd faced with Giannis was the latter’s poor shooting outside the paint.
Steve Nash will most likely not encounter the same problems. He’ll figure to use Durant, an MVP and a Finals MVP, to lead the pack. Kevin Durant is lethal from anywhere on the floor, but it remains to be seen how he’ll bounce back from his Achilles injury.
Chemistry building will be key
Steve Nash will have his hands full handling both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Although it is Nash’s first rodeo as a head coach, he has seen a fair share of Durant playing alongside superstars such as Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
However, he’ll still have to figure out how to find a point where the two players will click in all cylinders. Otherwise, his stint in the Nets might be short because of the infamous tendency of Irving to cause team implosion.
If Steve Nash immediately figures out how to build a bond between the two, the Brooklyn Nets could immediately ascend to the top.
