Kingdom season 3 has not been renewed by Netflix despite its massive popularity. However, the series’ writer Kim Eun-hee promises a strong story that will likely run for 10 seasons.
The Korean zombie-horror series first arrived in 2019 and instantly became a hit. It has been nearly eight months and yet the streaming platform remains silent on Kingdom season 3 renewal. Despite that, the series is still expected to return in 2021.
The zombie thriller is based on the book, Land of the Gods and follows the story of the Crown Prince Lee Chang. He and his people investigate a mysterious plague that spreads across the kingdom. The plague infects the people and turns them into zombies. On the other hand, his father, the king, has fallen ill. While being barred from seeing the king, the prince investigates his father’s illness. As the story progresses, he and his men are now fighting the blood-thirsty monsters.
“Kingdom” season 3 renewal status
As of writing, Netflix has not yet renewed the series; however, fans are hopeful that they will get the third installment. Just recently, news of a special bonus episode will feature Jun Ji-Hyun’s character, Gianna Jun.

To recall, the second season ended with the appearance of Gianna Jun, but still, her character adds mystery to the plague and to the resurrection plant. Despite the lack of renewal, writer Kim Eun-hee is confident in developing stronger storylines not only for season 3. She confirms that she wants to bring the series up to season 10. She said:
“Strangely enough, Kingdom is a series that gives me more energy the more I write it. The cast and crew all have great chemistry, and there’s so much more to tell. If viewers allow, I would love to see it develop even up to season 10.”
In addition, Kim Eun-hee has also explained Jun Ji Hyun’s role in the third installment. He notes that Jun Ji Hyun will have an important role to play in the upcoming season, along with the other main characters from season 1 and season 2.
Who is the mysterious plant seller
Kingdom season 3 will follow the events seven years after Prince Chang fakes his own death. And while he takes on his new identity, he investigates the resurrection plant that has been flourishing all over Korea.

An interesting character, a Chinese seller, has been selling the plant to the common people. Prince Chang and his comrades track the mysterious woman in the northern part of Korea. While selling the plant to the peasants, her motives are still unclear. However, she could be working for the Ming Dynasty. Thus, season 3 will delve deeper into the plant seller’s motives.
