Netflix remains tight-lipped concerning the series Kingdom season 3 and its renewal. However, the show’s writer revealed that there is still a handful of things to tell.
Netflix has delved into the Korean entertainment realm with original shows and films created exclusively for K-drama viewers. The streaming platform has slowly become one of the best places to stream Korean shows. For one, the zombie series Kingdom is the jewel in its crown.
Kingdom season 3 renewal uncertain
After Kingdom premiered in early 2019, the thriller series became an international sensation on Netflix. Thus, season 2 arrived just over a year later in March 2020. However, the previous installment’s finale has left fans in limbo and made them wonder about the series’ future.
As of press time, Netflix has not yet announced the official renewal of Kingdom. However, looking at the show’s worldwide viewership and rating, it would be logical for Netflix to give the green light.
Moreover, the last scene of the second season has revealed a mysterious threat to the Kingdom of Joseon. This likely means that Kingdom will return to resolve the new conflict.
Movie Night:
Well, it’s actually a series. I got sucked into the Korean @netflix series, #Kingdom.
Imagine the Walking Dead series in the 17th Century-ish with a power struggle in who will rule the land after the King has died.
Well written. 6 eps/season. 2 seasons (so far) pic.twitter.com/oTna4ILpO9

Kingdom’s writer on board to develop more than 3 seasons
If it is any consolation, Kim Eun-Hee, the writer of the series, revealed that she has enough ideas for the show to last more than three seasons. She further told The Hollywood Reporter:
“The cast and crew all have great chemistry, and there’s so much more to tell. If viewers allow, I would love to see it develop even up to season 10.”
The writer has also shared his insights about the show being compared to the current situation of the world. Kim Eun-Hee stated:
“Although the series is a product of the creators’ wild imagination, I hope the epidemic will soon be under control like in our series.”
Who will return?
The second installment of Kingdom has witnessed the deaths of many notable cast members. Therefore, only the stars who appeared in the season finale will probably reprise their roles for the forthcoming installment.
It includes Ju Ji-hoon, Ryu Seung-ryong, Bae Doona, and Kim Sung-kyu. Moreover, South Korean star Jun Ji Hyun is also likely to portray a new and critical role after appearing in season 2’s finale.
What to expect?
Season 3 will likely pick up from where the preceding installment left off. It will possibly reveal the intention of Jun Ji Hyun’s character. She will either spread chaos to the Kingdom of Joseon or contribute to the discovery of the virus’ cure.
Above all, the new Prince is expected to make an appearance in the upcoming season. His fate will be revealed after one remaining parasite moved up to his brain, as shown in the finale. Nevertheless, whether he becomes a zombie or a human hybrid remains to be seen.
Kingdom season 1 and season 2 are now available to stream on Netflix.
