Game of Thrones star Kit Harington is back on television and has a new show on Netflix. The actor is playing the suspect in the crime drama Criminal.
Criminal is a police procedural with several versions in France, Spain, and Germany. Kit Harington boards the British production’s second season, which will stream on Netflix beginning Sept. 16.
According to Deadline, this is the actor’s first TV role after his highly successful fantasy series on HBO. The show is an anthology drama that also has episodes featuring Kunal Nayyar from The Big Bang Theory. Like Harington, this is also Nayyar’s return to television after the end of his CBS sitcom.
A unique series
Criminal mainly takes place inside the police’s interrogation room, making it a unique crime series. The first season of the British show featured superb performances from the “criminals” David Tennant and Hayley Atwell. The other versions, however, failed to generate interest; thus, Netflix renewed only the U.K. series.
The new season will feature “four new cases, four new suspects and one room that changes everything.” Main cast members Katherine Kelly, Lee Ingleby, Mark Stanley, Nicholas Pinnock, Shubham Saraf, and Rochenda Sandall will reprise their roles as the investigators.
Harington is the biggest draw of Criminal season 2. After starring as the hero Jon Snow on Game of Thrones for eight seasons, Harington has to prove his acting chops in a purely character-driven crime drama.
Resurfacing after seeking therapy
Meanwhile, Kit Harington admitted in December 2019 that he had to check into a wellness facility to sort out his issues. The actor struggled to deal with his fame and stardom.
“For 10 years, Kit was almost interchangeable with Jon Snow, and fully inhabited this intense character,” the source revealed to People. “The role and especially the level of fame he was thrust into was a lot for someone so young and just out of drama school.”
Six months after confirming his struggles, the actor was photographed walking his dog in the streets of London. Prior to the pandemic lockdown, Harington joined his wife, Rose Leslie, for Fashion Week.
But Kit Harington has been busy while in lockdown as he is in the cast of a virtual play, titled Burn, with Downton Abbey actress Tuppence Middleton. The idea behind the play focuses on two single people trying to have a nice time at a date after meeting each other in an art gallery. Set to debut at the Assembly Festival, Burn’s release shifted online due to the coronavirus pandemic.
