Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a confirmed smash hit. According to Koei-Tecmo, the game generated an awesome 3.7 million copies sold.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is no Breath of the Wild. Even then, it still sold like no other hit. The game sold like no other Musou title on the Nintendo Switch, with most of its sales coming from its first week. During this time, the game sold as many as 3 million copies.
Age of Calamity is a hit even with its nonsensical plot
Hyrule Warriors came out during a time of a seeming dry spell for Nintendo. Back in November, Nintendo had only a few new titles out. Players were thirsty for a brand new title, and Age of Calamity was the answer.
The title was a hit among Zelda fans who were eager to see the franchise in a brand new light. Age of Calamity was a prequel story, well before everything that happened in the mainline titles. The game they got was more than that.
So far, the plot itself is a meme-worthy heap. It doesn’t make a lick of sense, with its contrived storyline. It also misrepresents many of the characters, including Link himself. Even then, the game is quite a fun time for people who enjoy a Warriors title.
Hyrule Warriors leads other Koei Tecmo sales surge
Koei Tecmo shared the fanfare for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity the only way they know. The company showed it off their official Japanese website, with a few other noteworthy titles for their 2020 roster.
Koei Tecmo shipment updates :
– Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity shipped 3.7m worldwide (up 200k since Dec 2020)
– Atelier Ryza 2 shipped 365k (up 145k since Dec 2020) pic.twitter.com/GxG0Jl9IRI— Pierre485 (@pierre485_) April 26, 2021
For starters, another Musou-style game, Persona 5 Strikers, got a notable increase in sales. Nioh 2 also received its day in the limelight for 2020, with Atelier Ryza 2 selling 365k copies since.
For those who enjoyed Age of Calamity, there’s more coming that will surely make fans fall in love with it. The quirky title is due to an upcoming DLC pack set for this summer. The DLC is available for pre-order, and the two-part DLC can help boos the game further.
When it comes to sales, it also doesn’t hold up to many Zelda titles. Age of Calamity is right behind Link’s Awakening in copies sold. Another title, Monster Hunter Rise, is quickly gaining on the copies sold for the Switch.
With all this, Koei Tecmo is still a valuable asset to Nintendo, reiterating their strong and valued partnership. There’s no new information regarding Breath of the Wild 2. This makes Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity the latest Zelda title and quite a great pickup.
