Kristen Stewart was chosen to play Princess Diana in the new film titled Spencer and this was announced last week.
For this film to be released in the U.S., NEON and Topic Studios teamed up to win the bidding battle for the rights. The said studios won and this means they have to pay a hefty $4 million to do Spencer, which will star Kristen Stewart.
The bidding for this project at the virtual Cannes Market has been fierce as big and small movie outfits are highly interested in it.
What the movie is about?
The movie film where Kristen Stewart stars will be directed by Pablo Larraín. As per Variety, the movie will center around the period leading the Princess of Wales’ final Christmas which is December of 1996.
It will also feature one critical weekend in the early 1990s when the princess realized that her marriage to Prince Charles was a failure.
The setting for this movie will be the House of Windsor in their Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England.
Spencer will surely touch the narrative on Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles whom she married in 1981. Their marriage fell apart mainly due to the latter’s extramarital affairs and their incompatibility.
They ended their marriage in 1992 but their divorce was only finalized in 1996, a year before her unfortunate death in Paris. Kristen Stewart and the rest of the cast are expected to begin filming in 2021.

“Kristen is one of the great actors around today,” Deadline quoted director Larraín as saying. “To do this well, you need something very important in a film which is a mystery, and Kristen can be many things.”
“She can be very mysterious and very fragile an ultimately very strong as well which is what we need,” the director further explained. “The combination of those elements made me think of her. The way she responded to the script and how she is approaching the character, it’s very beautiful to see.”
Larrain went on to say that they are happy to have Kristen Stewart on board because she is very committed as well.
