Yesterday’s face-off between Villarreal CF and RCD Mallorca ended in a 1-0 win in favor of the former, all thanks to its striker Carlos Bacca.
The La Liga results during Wednesday’s game, featuring Villarreal CF and RCD Mallorca, ended with a home win for the former. The #9 forward striker Carlos Arturo Bacca Ahumada, or Carlos Bacca, off Villarreal made sure to give justice to Samuel Chukwueze’s fast cross pass run.
The resumption of La Liga Season 2019-2020 kicked off last Friday, June 12, with Sevilla versus Real Betis—and Sevilla bagging an opening win of 2-0. The atmosphere of the post-coronavirus game is quite different, with cardboard cut-outs replacing the real audience on the stadium seats.
Tuesday’s head-to-head face-off: Villarreal vs Mallorca
Bacca was able to pull off an easy tap-in for the first-half goal at the 16th-minute mark, following Chukwueze’s cross-field run-pass. This was after Idrissu Baba of RCD Mallorca hit the woodwork from way outside—30 meters out—rattling the crossbar.
During the second half, the Mallorca goalkeeper was set on not letting another enemy goal pass through him with the shown “reflexes on point” and blocking any attempts from Villarreal of another shot.
Meanwhile, Mallorca’s Baba was seen struggling to make another successful shot outside of the box in the second half. Nearing the end, there was a heated head-to-head rally within the Villarreal box, but it didn’t end well for Mallorca.
La Liga schedule and current standings
Hopes are kept alive in nabbing the Europa League qualifying spot, as the winning Chukwueze’s assist and two-meter Bacca kick combo places Villarreal on the seventh rank in the current La Liga standings.
There are still six games left for Villareal and this recent win has lifted the team to 44 points. The team is now head-to-head with Getafe CF which ranks sixth, as of this writing, after having the same 13 wins, but Getafe leads 3 points (with 47 points) ahead of Villarreal.
