Latest Nintendo Switch firmware update feature allows transfer of videos, screenshots

Nintendo is officially dropping the latest update for the Switch, version 11.0, which focuses on many quality-of-life improvements, including the ability to transfer videos and screenshots directly to a computer.

Players who like to share screenshots or videos of their actual gaming experience can now easily edit their proof before distributing them online in contrast with the old method that requires users to upload their content directly to social media.

The new method can be done in one of two ways—wired via USB connection or wireless via QR code.

How To

To use the former method, users would need a USB cable with at least a type-C on one end. This is to ensure that the cable will insert directly into the Switch while the other end inserts into the computer.

With the Nintendo Switch physically linked to the computer, the user would need to navigate through the console to initiate the function. Particularly by going to System Settings > Data Management > Manage Screenshots and Videos.

For those who are not keen on the idea of linking their Switch to another device, the alternative is the use of a QR code. More specifically, with the use of a smartphone that will scan the code and gather the file from there. As this process works on a 1:1 basis, this route is significantly slower than the previous method.

Cloud Feature

In addition, another new feature is making its way as part of the update: uploading and retrieving a saved data to and from the cloud. This particular functionality targets users who own multiple Switch units and who are also active Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

To take advantage of the cloud feature, each console must be logged with a similar Nintendo account. Furthermore, the option to use the functionality itself would require manual enabling via System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud.

For the system to execute an “auto-download” of a saved file, however, a pre-existing one must exist. Meaning, for another console to be a recipient of the backed up saved file, the software must have an existing saved file beforehand.

Other Highlights

Other features that come as part of the latest update include a “trending” feature, easy access to Nintendo Switch Online, and an option to prioritize downloads. Additionally, 12 new user icons are also making their appearance, whose motif gravitates around Super Mario Bros. 35^th Anniversary.
