A recent leak revealed some interesting new specs for the upcoming Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card.
The leak was first shared by tech tipster KatKorgi via a post on Twitter. The tipster claims that the upcoming Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 is 20% faster than the current RTX 2080 Ti. If this leak is true, AMD, with its upcoming Big Navi launch, should be worried.
As of this writing, many in the community consider the RTX 2080 Ti as the most powerful in Nvidia’s arsenal. If the recent leak is true, then the upcoming RTX 3080 graphics cards will be exponentially powerful.
Interesting upgrades
Many in the community are skeptical about the extreme performance upgrade claimed by the leak. Many have questioned whether the supposed upgrade can transform into real-world performance. With the absence of supporting evidence, it is hard to tell.
On the other hand, experts from Wccftech an interesting note on the supposed upgrade. For one, the leaker did not specify the resolution upon which the 20% upgrade was tested.
If the RTX 3080 can deliver a 20% performance upgrade, this is an incredible breakthrough for Nvidia. Considering the current lineup, the upcoming graphics card should be able to perform 50% better at 4K resolution. Additionally, the graphics card can provide up to 40% graphics improvement when running at 1440p.
Step up from the competition
KatKorgi tweeted a follow-up tip claiming that the RTX 3080 will have a massive TGP requirement at 320W. If this is true, this will be the highest in all GeForce graphics card lineup.

A handful of leaks have already revealed how the RTX 3080 performs against other Nvidia graphics cards. However, this is the first time that the card has been pitted against the RTX 2080 Ti. In a leaked benchmark test, the upcoming graphics card outperforms the 2080 Ti by 30%.
Despite the abundance of performance leaks, the actual hardware specs of the video card are still unknown. Several rumors claim that it has 4,352 CUDA cores and offers as much as 10GB of video RAM. There are also rumors claiming that it is based on the GA12-200 platform.
It appears that Nvidia is improving its odds against the upcoming release of the Big Navi series from AMD. The so-called ‘Nvidia Killer’ is touted to put AMD on top of the high-end graphics card market.
As usual, these leaks about the Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti should be taken with a grain of salt. Anyhow, the new graphics card series is expected to hit the market within the coming months.
