Selling tarantulas is one way to get rich in Animal Crossing New Horizons. However, catching these spiders is a daunting task.
There is nothing new about tarantulas showing up in Animal Crossing games. However, in New Horizons, these spiders have become the most hunted animals in the game.
Tarantulas have a low encounter rate in Animal Crossing, which means the selling price is high. This is why players are finding ways to find them more easily. Luckily, players who want to infest their island with spiders have come up with a tarantula farming technique by summoning their own Tarantula Island.
How does it work
The key to farming tarantulas is to understand how they spawn inside the game. In Animal Crossing, bugs need to meet specific conditions to spawn such as weather, environment, and the season of the year.
Tarantulas only spawn during the nighttime, specifically between 7PM to 4AM. In addition, they only spawn at specific months depending on what hemisphere a player is located.
For Southern Hemisphere players, tarantulas only spawn in their area from May to October. On the other hand, Northern Hemisphere players can only hunt tarantulas from November to April.
Finding Tarantula Island
Players can visit Mystery Islands in the game but they will be completely random. If a player is really lucky, their plane could land on the elusive Tarantula Island.
The island spawns tarantulas on a massive and infinite rate. However, players who don’t have luck can create their own Tarantula Island.

How to spawn tarantulas
Twitter user and Animal Crossing fan Voxels shared on the social media site a list of steps on how to spawn tarantulas on any Mystery Island.
Players should fly to any Mystery Island by using a Nook Miles Ticket via Dodo Airlines. Upon arriving on an island players need to:
- Be there at nighttime
- Chop all trees
- Remove tree stumps
- Pick all flowers
- Destroy rocks
- Remove all weeds
- Dump all picked up items on the beach
- Clear island of unwanted bugs
Doing these steps eliminates the conditions where other types of bugs will spawn. However, not all Mystery Islands work this way.
A three-tiered Mystery Island typically doesn’t spawn any bugs, so there is no point in doing these steps. Lastly, it is worth mentioning that this technique requires patience and a whole lot of running.
It will take a few minutes to clear the island and the spawn rates will be lower than the normal Tarantula Island. However, this technique is still effective for players who are desperate to gain Animal Crossing bells.
