The community-made Left 4 Dead 2 official update will go live next week. A new trailer came out today, showing off what stuff fans will get on September 24.
Over the week, fans learned the Valve and the community worked on the upcoming Left 4 Dead 2 update. Among what fans knew was “The Last Stand” map fleshed out to be a bigger campaign. A new trailer notes there’s more coming.
New update adds 20 survival maps and melee weapons
The Last Stand update will include The Lighthouse map developed into a campaign. The new campaign will have a definite ending, rather than a simple endless survival mode.
The upcoming update will also have 20 new Survival maps. To put this into perspective, the first Left 4 Dead had 20 maps by default. Even L4D2 only has new 26 maps, minus the addition of Cold Stream.
Apart from the survival maps, 4 new scavenge maps will come to L4D2. Fans can start whacking zombies with two new melee weapons – the pitchfork and shovel. L4D1 Infected are also coming back, and they’re more powerful than ever.
The community also restored unused voice lines. For example, the update will add more lines to Rochelle, which should give her a bit of personality now.
The dev team feature-creeped the entire thing with new character animations. They also changed the gun models and animations and balanced the non-competitive PVP.
L4D2 update also adds new mutations and achievements
The new Left 4 Dead 2 update is the gift that keeps on giving. The community members that worked on it corrected “a plethora of bug and exploit fixes.” The also added more mutations that players can enjoy.
For example, fans can start launching themselves around with a rocket launcher with Rocketdude. Tank Run lets players run away from basically a horde of tanks. There are also 30 brand new achievements for new and unique milestones.
The update came from a dev team of more than 30 people within the community. The worked with Valve for over a year to make the game happen on. The update will be free for everyone who owns a copy of L4D2.
Fans are expecting the Last Stand to make the 11-year old game worth it again. L4D2 defined the zombie genre and made people fall in love with the idea. Fans could relive those days all over again and expect a thriving community within it.
Left 4 Dead 2 The Last Stand update will come out on September 24. The update will only be available for the Steam version of the game and will be free to current owners. Once it goes live, the game will be free to play over the long weekend.
