Executive producers are now lining up guest stars for Legacies season 3. Nina Dobrev will reportedly be one of them.
Legacies season 3 will reportedly feature Nina Dobrev when it comes out later this year. However, it is still unknown which character she will be playing in her guest-starring commitment.
Dobrev played multiple characters in The Vampire Diaries universe. The two most popular of her characters are Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce. She memorably left The Vampire Diaries after the sixth season of the hit show to pursue other career opportunities.
The quarantine has afforded me more free time than I usually have. @StephenChbosky sent me his new book a while back, and I was finally able to read it. I’m floored. If you’re looking for something that will keep you at the edge of your seat… this is your book. It’s amazing‼️ pic.twitter.com/XdnSt05ntA

Legacies started as a spinoff of fellow The CW series The Originals in 2018. The Originals, in turn, also began as a spinoff series to The Vampire Diaries.
Legacies experiences early renewal
Early this year, The CW announced that Legacies will be getting a third season. The early renewal surprised a lot of industry experts. Usually, The CW declares its renewed shows in May during the broadcast networks’ Upfronts presentations.
Fans initially feared that the series would be canceled because of middling ratings. The second season’s latest episode only got 1.24 million total viewers when it aired in March.
Legacies was not the only series that The CW renewed early. According to a report, the network renewed 13 shows in January. This included the network’s top shows Riverdale, The Flash¸ and Supergirl.
COVID-19 disrupts Legacies season 3 production
Legacies was set to start production on its third season this summer. However, COVID-19 concerns will most likely delay the production of the paranormal fantasy series.
In March, the second season of the series had to end prematurely because of the pandemic. The March 26 episode of the series was the last one to finish shooting before the production shutdown.
As a result, The CW got a huge hole in its programming by early April. The second season premiere of In the Dark had to move one week early to fill the gap in programming.
According to a write-up, the show will finish filming the second season before starting production on the third season. This will give time for the series to properly wrap up its sophomore outing.
Former The Vampire Diaries in Legacies
If Nina Dobrev appears on Legacies, she will not be the first The Vampire Diaries star to return to the universe.
In the second season, Chris Wood came back to play Kai for two episodes. Zach Roerig and Steven R. McQueen previously reprised their roles as Matt Donovan and Jeremy Gilbert in the first season.
Legacies season 3 will air later this year on The CW Network. Nina Dobrev last appeared on the Canadian film Run This Town.
