All eyes were on Asus after the accidental Twitter slip-up revealed the Asus ROG 3 sporting the Snapdragon 865 Plus, prior to Qualcomm confirming the existence of the chipset. However, Lenovo plans to snatch the crown as it schedules its Legion gaming phone launch hours before Asus.
As Micky News previously reported that the ROG Global accident confirmed a few highly noted tech chatter—the existence and release of Snapdragon 865 Plus and Asus ROG 3’s chipset. With this as well, tech media outlets have dubbed the ROG 3 to be the very first smartphone to carry the said chipset. It may no longer be the case, however.
At this point, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 is no longer in the competition, unless the Korean tech giant decides to twist the plot and reveal its latest flagship—not to mention, its Snapdragon 865 Plus smartphone candidate—ahead of July 22.
Per Android Authority, it was as if Lenovo was just waiting for Asus to announce its ROG 3 launch details. Thanks to the ROG Global slip up, Lenovo succeeds in its plan, with announcing its very own next-gen gaming phone only hours before its rival.
Accordingly, the Lenovo Legion gaming phone reveal will happen on July 22, 7:30 a.m. ET, or 7:30 p.m. in China. This is only around three hours and a half ahead of Asus with its virtual ROG 3 reveal event happening at 11:00 a.m. ET.
Per the tech media outlet, the Lenovo Legion launch was announced on Weibo, a China-based social media platform.
Last month, Micky News reported that the Legion gaming phone is likely to pack the Snapdragon 865 Plus. The rumor might have been taken a little lightly, considering Qualcomm had allegedly noted that the said powerful chipset is not slated until next year.
With Legion and ROG 3 now carrying the same chipset, it now boils down to the software. In terms of Legion’s specs, it has been longed rumored to pack a 144Hz display and a 90W fast wired charging.
The Legion gaming phone is likely to pack a dual rear camera with a 64MP+16MP setup. Meanwhile, the ROG 3 is said to have a triple camera setup, which has been the trend with the latest flagship Android phones as of late.
All rumors are about to be confirmed for both gaming phones come July 22. Stay tuned to find out which specs were proven to be true.
