LG Velvet with 6.8-inch P-OLED display, Snapdragon 765G, and premium design is now official

The LG Velvet is a mid-range smartphone that is headlined by an overhauled design language and a camera setup that redefines the game.

While LG is still mulling to announce its new LG Velvet smartphone on May 7 formally, some folks at the Korean tech giant couldn’t wait to reveal the phone’s entire key specifications ahead of launch. As it is, the hotly-anticipated phone is now official by default.

A distinctive design

The LG Velvet is built around a 6.8-inch P-OLED display with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,460 pixels. LG dubs the phone’s accompanying screen as “Cinema FullVision OLED,” one that also sports a tall aspect of 20.5:9.

LG also equips the Velvet with a glass and metal combination chassis, which ultimately offers users with a bespoke 3D arc design. As such, the phone’s left and right edges both on its front and rear are all curved slightly.

Other key display features of the phone are its waterdrop notch at the top center of the screen, which houses its 16MP selfie snapper, and the OLED panel’s in-display fingerprint reader.

Meanwhile, the LG Velvet is also revealed with the feature “Artificial Intelligence Sound,” which enables the phone to analyze the content being played in it and chooses the optimal audio quality automatically. In the same vein, the phone is also equipped with stereo speakers.

Under the hood

Powering the LG Velvet is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G chipset, which is based on the 7nm architecture. As its name suggests, the phone also comes with 5G capabilities.

The LG Velvet also comes with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage; the latter is expandable via the phones microSD card slot.

On the other hand, the LG Velvet works on a 4,300mAh battery, with support for 30W fast wired charging and 10W fast wireless charging.

Raindrop-like camera design

Easily one of the more distinctive features of the LG Velvet is the camera system rendition on its rear. The rear cameras of the phone are placed vertically at the top-left corner, with its sensors arranged like water droplets.

The LG Velvet’s triple-cam setup comprises a 4MP primary lens, an 8MP ultrawide shooter, and a 5MP depth sensor. Inside the phone’s notch is a 16MP wide front-facing snapper.

Pricing and availability

Despite the generous amount of details we have been shared with relative to the LG Velvet’s key features and specifications, LG is yet to announce the phone’s pricing and availability. Be sure to drop by on this site on May 7 once the phone finally gets announced for real.

The LG Velvet, which is tipped to retail in multiple colors such as Aurora White, Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, and Illusion Sunset, is set to go on sale in South Korea on May 15.
