In this time of isolation, the streaming war heats up because of the world’s increasing demand for entertainment sources. As a result, distinct streaming platforms are doubling their efforts to improve their respective streaming library.
Nevertheless, it appears that Amazon Prime is taking the game to another level with its release of diverse original content. One of these upcoming releases is the coming-of-age drama Chemical Hearts.
The forthcoming film was adapted from Krystal Sutherland’s 2016 novel Our Chemical Hearts. Additionally, Richard Tanne, who is famous for his Southside With You creation, directed, produced, and wrote Chemical Hearts.
Along with the movies’ announcement, Julie Rapaport, co-head of movies at Amazon Studios has shared her insights about the film. She stated,
“Krystal Sutherland’s novel captured the hearts of readers around the world, and we are excited to bring this film to our global Prime Video customers.”
Chemical Hearts will star Paper Towns’ Austin Abrams and Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart. The latter has also reportedly executive produced the highly-anticipated film.
Furthermore, Reinhart revealed that she was excited to do a project outside of Riverdale. She said,
“When you’re on a show for X amount of years you feel like you want to do something that you’re in control of.”
Chemical Hearts follows 17-year-old Henry Page (Austin Abrams) who has never experienced falling in love. He considers himself a romantic, but the kind of once-in-a-lifetime love he’s been longing for just hasn’t happened yet. However, everything is bound to change as he meets transfer student Grace Town (Reinhart) on the first day of senior year.
After Grace and Henry were selected to co-edit the school paper, henry was immediately drawn to the enigmatic stranger. Henry finds himself falling in love with her — or at least the girl he thinks she is — as he discovers the heartbreaking truth that has changed her life.
Chemical Hearts follows the same vein as Five Feet Apart. The latter movie starred Reinhart’s Riverdale co-star and on-and-off boyfriend Cole Sprouse. In the film, Sprouse plays a teen living with cystic fibrosis who falls in love with another patient at the hospital, played by Haley Lu Richardson.
While Five Feet Apart shined a light on the cystic fibrosis community, Chemical Hearts will reportedly focus on mental health issues. Moreover, just like Five Feet Apart, the forthcoming Chemical Hearts will feature a teen love story that will make fans completely tear up.
Chemical Hearts will hit Amazon Prime on August 21.
