Lindsay Lohan is still hoping for the Mean Girls reunion to happen after all these years.
In a virtual interview with David Spade on Lights Out with David Spade, the 33-year old opened up about her interest in making a part two of the movie with the original cast.
After telling Spade about going back to doing movies at some point, she then admitted to “hanging on” to the movie for quite a long time and that she would really like to come back to the big screen with a Mean Girls 2 movie.
She also mentioned that she wants to work again with her co-star Tina Fey, who played the role of Mrs. Norbury, and the director, Mark Waters.
But as much as she wants to make a sequel happen, it will all have to remain as a dream for now. “But that’s all in their hands really,” Lohan stated.
For now, she can only hope for it to happen as she thinks it’s “definitely an exciting thing.”
The Mean Girls era
The Mean Girls movie came out in April 2004. But even after 16 years, the female-centric movie is still being talked about due to its phenomenal success and iconic comedy scenes.
According to a report, the film earned an unexpected $24.4 million over its debut weekend. The movie then lived on through DVD, on cable TV, and now it’s on Netflix.
Despite its massive success though, the film never got a sequel that the fans have hoped for. Paramount Pictures did release a movie in 2011 with the same title but it no longer starred the same cast.
In the first movie, Lohan, who played the character Cady Heron, was joined by Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, Lizzy Caplan, Jonathan Bennet, Daniel Franzese, and Tim Meadows.
In the 2011 Mean Girls 2, it starred Meaghan Martin, Maiara Walsh, Jennifer Stone, and Claire Holt. The only one who made a role return was Meadows as Principal Duvall.
So, the title did get a sequel, just not the one with Lohan in it.
Lohan’s upcoming movie
The Freaky Friday actress has been busy lately with a new project. She is going to appear in a new movie called Curse with Mickey Rourke (Sin City, Iron Man 2).
She will be playing the character of a Police and detective officer. Aside from doing films, Lohan has also made a comeback in the music industry.
Her new song, “Back to Me,” is her first official single in 12 years. According to her, the song is about “rediscovering and accepting oneself, shutting out the noise and moving forward and letting the past go.”
