The upcoming Disney+ series Loki, which stars Tom Hiddleston, adds Sasha Lane in the cast.
Fresh off her Amazon Prime TV show, Utopia, Lane has reportedly been attached to Loki for some time. Her role, however, was not yet reported nor confirmed by the studio.
But Lane hinted her participation in Loki in an interview about comic books, per The DisInsider. The actress said that she is not a fan of graphic novels, but she knows there are good comic book stories.
“To be honest, it’s never really sparked me,” Lane said. “I found a couple of graphic novels that were true crime murder mysteries and that was kind of cool, but I’ve never really had that kind of interest in them.”
Lane is a Dallas-born actress of Maori descent. She debuted in the 2016 award-winning movie American Honey with Shia LaBeouf and Riley Keough. The actress is also in the upcoming Steven Spielberg-produced series Amazing Stories.
Now back in production
As with many Hollywood productions, Loki had to push back and delay the work due to COVID-19. But actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw said that they are now back on the set in Atlanta while observing safety precautions.
Mbatha-Raw told Forbes that she could not say anything else about the upcoming show since they are “sworn to secrecy.” However, the actress said that she’s excited despite the circumstances because she knows fans of the superhero franchise will enjoy the series.
Apart from Hiddleston and Mbatha-Raw, Loki will also feature Richard E. Grant, Sophia Di Martino, and Owen Wilson. Warner Bros has not revealed their actual roles, but fans guess Grant will play an older version of Loki in a different timeline.
Expected release date
Disney+ plans to release Loki for early 2021 instead of late this year due to the COVID-19 delay. The series will form part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase 4 and will have six episodes. It will take place after what happened in Avengers: Endgame with Loki still in possession of the Tesseract.
Fans will recall that the God of Mischief stole the Tesseract in 2012’s The Avengers, which opened a new timeline in the MCU. Using this powerful device, Loki will time travel through the history of the world and will open more worlds in the MCU.
The TV show will also answer what Loki has been doing since he took the Tesseract and if he has made friends during his adventures. The show will tie with the upcoming movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with Benedict Cumberbatch. Marvel sets this film’s release in 2022.
