‘Loki’: Is Richard E. Grant playing an old version of Tom Hiddleston’s character?

Richard E. Grant confirmed that he is in the cast of the Loki series starring Tom Hiddleston on Disney+.

The actor shared a post on his Twitter account to confirm his participation in the series. But the side-by-side post of his photo and Hiddleston sparked rumors that he’s going to play the older version of Loki.

Grant said that he has talked about working with Hiddleston for years. Now, it’s finally happening in the Disney+ show.

According to Heroic Hollywood, details of Grant’s casting is a big secret. Thus, fans are speculating on his potential role, especially after noticing the similarities in their facial features.

But Grant signed on to the show as far back as March, before the pandemic lockdown. According to Discussing Film, it’s not the first Marvel role for the actor since he was also in Logan with Hugh Jackman.

Sworn into secrecy

Loki cast member Gugu Mbatha-Raw said that they are “sworn to secrecy” with everything about the series. So, not a lot of people are aware of what will happen in the show. However, the actress is thrilled to be back at work as production resumed.

“Everyone is trying to do it as safely as possible under the circumstances, and it feels good,’ Mbatha-Raw said.

The Disney series also stars Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino. Their roles have also not been disclosed, in keeping with the secrecy of the production.

What is Loki really about?

Disney said that this Marvel series will take place after the events of the Avengers: Endgame, where Loki has Tesseract that created the different timelines. He’ll be using this Tesseract to travel through times and places in history as he sets forth his adventures and mischief.

Perhaps one of these adventures will feature a future timeline, allowing Loki to interact with his older self. Producers hinted that the series will have some sci-fi elements to it. The show is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Phase 4 but the writers said it’s going to take viewers into a new part of the franchise. Loki is going to explore not just times and places but the character’s identity.

“The first 10 years of movies, Loki is out of control at pivotal parts of his life,” show creator Michael Waldron said. “He was adopted and everything and that manifest itself through anger and spite towards his family.”

Disney+ plans to air Loki in early 2021 with six episodes.
