Benyamin Ahmed, a 12-year-old kid living in London, has earned $160,000 worth of Ethereum through his NFT icons called “Weird Whales,” which are pixelated images of whales.
In an interview, Ahmed said: “I got interested in the NFT space because originally I thought it was cool as an online flex.”
After seeing the monumental success achieved by NFT collections such as “CryptoPunks” and “Bored Ape Yacht Club,” Ahmed finally decided to kickstart his own NFT journey.
The rare factor
One of the aspects that bring success to NFT collections is their rarity attribute, something unique or different, that makes them highly valued.
That is why Ahmed had followed this “rule” by integrating each of his Weird Whale NFT images with something that can make it unique. One of his whale images, called “RaritySniper.com” is considered as the eighth rarest whale in his 3350 NFT whales. The image alone has netted $6,000.
Creating NFTs requires technical know-how, and Ahmed’s father has been instrumental in honing his computer language skills. Ahmed’s father works as a web developer and he introduced Ahmed and his brother to HTML and CSS when they were just around six years old.
NFT doors opened
But the opportunity to create NFT only arrived when someone had sent Ahmed a Python script with a template for creating customized tiered images. His father helped him explore the process for creating such images, and Ahmed obviously enjoyed the process.
When Ahmed put his Weird Whales NFT collection up for sale, he immediately earned 80 ETH in just nine hours. He also earns royalties from the OpenSea platform which further increases his earnings from his NFT venture.
