‘Lord of the Rings’ TV series bringing back Sauron, Elrond and Galadriel

At least three major characters from the Lord of the Rings movie and books will be in the upcoming TV show. Sauron, Elrond, and Galadriel are set to appear in the Amazon Prime series, which will resume filming in New Zealand in September.

A tweet from TheOneRing confirmed that Sauron, Elrond, and Galadriel are going to be in the Lord of the Rings series. This information came out during the Comic-Con online panel last weekend.

Fans assumed that these three characters would be in the series because they played a part in the war during the Second Age. Parts of this war were featured at the beginning of the first movie, The Fellowship of the Ring (2001). It’s also in the original book source from JRR Tolkien.

But the Lord of The Rings TV show will reportedly focus on the early years of the Second Age, where Sauron is yet to become the Dark Lord. Confirming the character’s presence should excite avid Tolkien fans, especially since Tolkien didn’t write about Sauron’s origin in detail.

Casting young Galadriel

In 2019, Amazon confirmed that Morfydd Clark would play young Galadriel in the Lord of The Rings TV show. The actress is also in the HBO series His Dark Materials and the Netflix thriller Dracula.

In the movies, Cate Blanchett played the enigmatic Galadriel, the Lady of the Light and leader of the Noldor elvish clan. Galadriel has telepathic abilities and is one of the most powerful elves. The TV series will likely explore how she harnessed her powers.

Casting Elrond and Sauron

Casting for Elrond and Sauron has not yet been revealed. Hugo Weaving played the older Elrond in the movies. The High King of the Ñoldor, Elrond was half-elven who lived a very long life. He fought alongside Galadriel in the War of the Last Alliance during the Second Age.

Sauron, on the other hand, was a disembodied character in the Lord of The Rings films, and Alan Howard provided his voice. In The Hobbit trilogy, Benedict Cumberbatch voiced Sauron, who disguised himself as a Necromancer.

Meanwhile, the Lord of the Rings TV show cast also includes Robert Aramayo, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Owain Arthur, Ema Horvath, Nazanin Boniadi, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Daniel Weyma, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith Tom Budge, and Charlie Vickers. Amazon is keeping the details of their roles under wraps, but Game of Thrones fans will be familiar with Aramayo as Young Ned Stark.
