Lost in Space is returning to Netflix for its third and final run. What to expect in the science fiction series’ season 3? These are all the details known so far.
Netflix is packed with science fiction/fantasy action-adventure series. But Lost in Space is a particular title that several subscribers have been binge-watching.
It’s a reboot of the 1965 series of the same name that follows the adventures of the Robinsons, a family of space colonists whose spaceship veers off course.
They were originally on their way to fulfill the mission of colonizing the Alpha Centauri star system. But even before they reached their destination, an alien robot forced them to evacuate their mothership.
The family crashed on a nearby planet where they faced challenges and battles against a strange environment and their own personal demons.
Season 3 renewed
Lost in Space has already finished two seasons. According to reports, fans are going to find out what happens next after the events from the season 2 finale.
Netflix renewed the show in March 2020 for a season 3. However, they also announced that they will be tying up all the loose threads as it’s going to be their final entry.
Some dismayed fans tried starting a petition for more episodes but it’s less likely going to make an impact.
Showrunner Zack Estrin explained that the show was planned to be a trilogy from the very start. He said that it has always been viewed as a “three-part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle and end.”

But while some are hoping for more, others are just grateful to get a proper ending of the story instead of leaving it hanging.
“It’s also worth noting that, with what these characters go through just trying to survive each episode — if anyone deserves to catch their breath before their next mission — it’s Will, Penny, Judy, Maureen, John, Don West, Dr. Smith… and The Robot,” Estrin wrote.
Production update
The latest update regarding the production is that the show is planning to start filming in September 2020. If all goes well, they may wrap up in January 2021.
Nothing is still certain though as the world continues to face the health crisis. Restrictions in some places are also still being implemented.
For now, there is no actual release date yet but if initial plans fall into place, Lost in Space season 3 may come around late summer or fall 2021.
What to expect in season 3?
Details are still kept under wraps but sources suggest that it will pick up from where it left off.
Season 2 ended with the Jupiter Transport carrying the children coming into contact with the Fortuna.
Those who follow the show know that Fortuna is the long lost ship commanded by Grant Kelly. It’s possible that he may still be alive.

Moreover, the show is said to change filming location in season 3. The first season was filmed in Vancouver while the second was in Iceland.
Sources say that the third set will be Burnaby in British Columbia, which could mean that they’re heading to a brand new planet.
More details will be revealed soon so fans will have to stay tuned for more updates on Lost in Space season 3.
