‘Mad Men’ to stream for free on IMDb TV this month

AMC’s acclaimed television series Mad Men will be streaming free of charge on IMDb TV beginning this July 15.

According to the announcement posted by AMC through its official website, Mad Men’s free availability on IMDb TV is made possible through a multi-year contract that Lionsgate, which produced the hit program, has inked with the American cable TV network.

The complex multi-year agreement involves a global licensing deal with Amazon, which happens to own the IMDb TV service.

According to the terms of the deal, IMDb TV will become the exclusive free-streaming partner that will offer Mad Men to U.S. viewers.

For those willing to pay, however, all 92 episodes of the iconic series will be made available through the Amazon Prime platform starting on July 3 across Latin America, Europe, and Australia. Other markets like Japan, Israel, Indonesia, Thailand, Canada, and the Netherlands will follow suit in the weeks and months to come.

After Mad Men’s exclusive run on IMDb TV and Amazon Prime from this month until October 1 later this year, the show should make its way to its original network, AMC.

Coming home

In its original run on the AMC cable network, Mad Men lasted for no less than seven seasons from 2007 to 2015.

Along the way, it had collected a ton of awards, including winning the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series four times

The series also made a few stars out of its talented cast, which includes Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss (which went on to star on her own landmark series The Handmaid’s Tale), Vincent Kartheiser, January Jones, Christina Hendricks, Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and Jared Harris (the upcoming Foundation).

Now after a half-decade absence (except on Netflix), Mad Men is now coming home to AMC, as well as on a wide range of AMC-owned services, such as its SVOD arms and linear networks.

Before Lionsgate’s deal with Amazon, the production studio had a 2011 agreement with Netflix, but that contract has since expired last month, and the streaming giant reportedly had decided not to push for renewal.

A solid addition to IMDb TV’s expanding catalog

As for IMDb TV, it can hardly go wrong with the decision to add Mad Men to its growing list of hit TV show titles.

Right now, the Amazon-owned service already offers old favorites such as Chicago Fire, Desperate Housewives, Friday Night Lights, Lost, Malcolm in the Middle, Revenge, Schitt’s Creek, and White Collar.

As mentioned earlier, Mad Men will be made available free of charge on IMDb TV as a streamable title, but with ads.
