October 11 is recognized as International Day of the Girl by the United Nations. To mark the occasion, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry spoke to Pakistani education advocate Malala Yousafzai.
The Pakistani activist and the Royals sat down to discuss the importance of education and the inequality faced by girls worldwide.
Furthermore, in the virtual chat, they both discussed the pandemic’s challenges and the need to focus on and improve a girl’s right to education.
Malala Yousafzai has been vocal about the right for girl’s education since her very young age. She is now a world-renowned activist for the same cause.
The young advocate
The activist boldly fought for her life after an assassination attempt by the Taliban to silence her raising voice to promote education. She was commended with a Nobel prize for her works, which she started at a young age.
During the live video chat, the Noble awardee also discussed the barriers and challenges faced by 130 million girls in their reach for education. She stated that everyone needs to highlight the need more.
She further described that a girl’s education would help everyone win and further open doors for high societal success.
On the other hand, the dutches, who is also an advocate for girls’ right, stated that she realizes the changes women can make regarding policymaking and legislation.
The underestimated luxury of school books
She also shared that she is lucky to have a father who encourages her to pursue education. Adding to it, she states it is a luxury for some students to have a school book while others take it for granted.
Moreover, The dutches said that Archie has helped them realize the importance of it. Prince Harry also agreed to this and stated that he is also grateful for their son’s education.
He also spoke about the impact a girl can bring on climate change. The Prince said educating a girl will open more economic doors. He also explained that it would further lessen the impact of disaster bought by climate change.
They further added that the pandemic had worsened the situations in terms of accessible education. Despite being happy to witness Archies’ first steps and other milestones, the duo stated that it’s robbing the society of cultural richness and many’s childhoods.
