Mariah Carey didn’t want to make things worse for Ellen DeGeneres but admitted that she wasn’t comfortable with their interview back in 2008.
Mariah Carey is one of the big stars who appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In a recent interview, Carey looked back at her appearance on the Ellen show 12 years ago, and it wasn’t a pleasant experience for her.
Mariah Carey recalled her uncomfortable interview with Ellen
In a recent interview with Vulture, the Hero singer spoke about her upcoming memoir. She also shared some of the things that happened in her life that she found uncomfortable. One of those instances was her 2008 interview with Ellen DeGeneres.
In 2008, there were rumors that Mariah Carey was pregnant. Ellen DeGeneres was keen to make Carey confirm the speculations, so the host challenged her to drink Champagne to debunk the rumors.
“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” Carey said about the experience.
Carey told Vulture that she wasn’t ready to announce her pregnancy at the time because she had a miscarriage.
“I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment,” she added referencing to the drama surrounding the host.
“An empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do? It’s like, [sings] ‘What are you going to do?”
Carey suffered another miscarriage after her 2008 interview with DeGeneres.
Taylor Swift’s guesting on The Ellen Show
Mariah Carey wasn’t the only celebrity to experience that treatment from Ellen DeGeneres. Fans also called out the host for making Taylor Swift uncomfortable during her guesting on the show.
At the start of the interview, DeGeneres asked the Love Story singer about Zac Efron. Swift smiled and said there was nothing between them. At the time, Swift was promoting a new album. DeGeneres asked her again about the Highschool Musical star.
“Which song is about Zac on the new CD?” DeGeneres asked.
Swift said there was no song for Efron because they were never an item. DeGeneres responded with “Alright, OK” while spinning her finger in a circle by her head.
Taylor almost cried on the show
In one segment, Ellen DeGeneres invited Taylor Swift to play a game. But to the Reputation songstress’ surprise, the game flashed photos of men linked to her.
The host instructed Swift to ring the bell to confirm if she dated the man. The screen flashed three faces, and Swift never rang the bell. When Cory Monteith’s photo appeared, the singer couldn’t believe why she saw his picture. But DeGeneres took the bell and rang it.
When Swift looked on the screen again, it flashed Rob Lowe’s face, and DeGeneres rang the bell again.
“Stop it, stop it, stop!” Swift said, and her voice and face looked like she was close to crying. It was only the time when DeGeneres stopped.
