Several film and series projects of Marvel Studios are not on Disney+.
Marvel Studios partnered with several other studios and production companies for film projects in the past. This is why there are numerous titles featuring characters of the universe that are available for streaming outside Disney+.
But, with the emergence of the MCU’s identity, as well as the Disney+ streaming platform, most of these materials have already left their home library. Some of them have even joined the new titles that are available on Disney+.
Comic Book reported that two more films from the studio will soon leave its current streaming home. These are those from HBO Max, and they will no longer be part of its library starting from January 31, 2022.
Marvel titles leaving HBO Max
The publication said that these two films are The Punisher and Punisher: War Zone. They are titles from 2004 and 2008, respectively, which Marvel Studios produced, alongside Lionsgate.
The movies will leave HBO Max’s library on Monday. As stated, this comes as the “licensing cycle takes them to their next streaming home.”
There is no information as to whether they will join other MCU titles on Disney+. But, Streamraptor previously reported that the films have already arrived on the streaming platform, and subscribers may now access them for viewing.
Netflix, meanwhile, has its own Punisher character as part of its own Marvel universe.
About Netflix’s The Punisher
Netflix’s The Punisher premiered in November 2017. It is the ninth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a production of the studio, alongside Netflix, according to MCU Wiki.
Jon Bernthal plays the role of the titular character, which first appeared in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil. It is apparently a spin-off of the latter, and the streaming giant first acknowledged its development in 2016.
The series released its second installment in January 2019. But, Netflix cancelled the show a month later, as it did with all the other Marvel series on its roster.
The potential return of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher
The talks about Jon Bernthal’s return as the Punisher remain apparent these days. It has become even more evident in the last few weeks due to Defenders characters’ re-appearance on some MCU materials.
As it happened, Charlie Cox reprised his role as Daredevil for Spider-Man: No Way Home. In addition, Vincent D’Onofrio returned as Wilson Fisk or Kingpin on Hawkeye.
Accordingly, many seemingly theorise that the Punisher, alongside the rest of the key characters of Defenders, will be back and officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
