“Spider-Man: No Way Home” is the latest collaboration between Sony and Marvel Studios.
Sony holds the film rights to Spider-Man. In 2015, however, the studio entered an unprecedented partnership with Marvel, allowing the character to enter the MCU franchise.
The collaboration resulted in the production of new Spider-Man movies with Tom Holland playing the character. It also allowed Holland’s Spider-Man to interact with other characters in other MCU films.
But, the partnership fell apart after the release of Far From Home in 2019. Although the two studios reached a new deal, later on, it seemingly marked the then-near-end of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man within the franchise.
Until Monday, producer Amy Pascal revealed that this is not the case. The Hollywood Reporter released some of the details of what she had to say about the future of Spider-Man in the MCU.
More plans between Marvel and Sony
In an interview with Fandango, the producer confirmed that Spider-Man: No Way Home is not the last movie of Sony with Marvel. She added that they are “getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland” and the Kevin Feige-run studio.
Pascal continued that they are thinking of making three films. While many are already speculating that a trilogy is already on the way, Sony insiders reportedly noted that “there are no official plans” for it at this time.
Venom, Spider-Man, and the MCU
Earlier in October, a clue emerged that Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man in the future. This came after Venom: Let There Be Carnage premiered, with a post-credits scene, showing the character.
The clip seemingly teases a potential showdown between Spider-Man and Venom within the MCU. Theories and speculations have since become apparent, but confirmations remain scarce. Nevertheless, reports believe more teasers will become available once Spider-Man: No Way Home drops on big screens this December.
Spider-Man: No Way Home arriving soon
No Way Home is set to debut on December 17. It follows the events that took place in Far From Home, and possibly the ones in other recent MCU materials.
Apart from Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, other notable characters will also be in the upcoming Spider-Man movie. These include Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, and Jamie Foxx’s Electro.
All three villains are returning characters in Sony’s Spider-Man franchise, and are now entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They originally played their respective roles in Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), respectively.
