Crystal Dynamic’s Marvel’s Avengers will include some very familiar faces from the comic book franchise. Surprisingly, it seems like not every character is going to be playable across all platforms.
The confirmed playable characters of Marvel’s Avengers include Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, and Miss Marvel. The main roster will be expanded with DLC, the first of which is Hawkeye. According to a recent listing, one other character is coming, but he won’t be available on the Xbox One and PC.
Spider-Man as an exclusive
A now removed listing from a retailer suggests that the game will see the friendly-neighborhood Spider-Man as an exclusive character for the game. For now, we’ve yet to know whether it’s Sony or the developers that provided the blurb.
This is a surprise in many ways. For starters, it’s only Hawkeye that’s been confirmed as the DLC character for the game. However, we’ll likely be seeing Spider-Man announced as one during the next War Table.
It’s also surprising that Spider-Man himself will be available in the game. Fans have said before that it’s unlikely for him to be a part of the game as he already has his own on the PlayStation 4. Now, some fans are speculating that the two universes tie-in with each other.
Why an exclusive?
We’ve yet to know why Spider-Man is an exclusive for the PlayStation version of Marvel’s Avengers. It’s most likely because Sony has the movie rights to the superhero.
The exclusivity deal won’t sit well with fans. Particularly with gamers who are going to get the game for the Xbox One and PC. There is a chance that the hero might just be a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 4. Since this is only a leaked image, for now, fans should take the rumors with a grain of salt. If it is true, fans shouldn’t be surprised as Spider-Man is under Sony after all.
Spider-Man has been with Sony for a long time. There’s an exclusive title for the PlayStation 4. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is also in the works and is slated for a PlayStation 5 release.
Marvel’s Avengers launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this Sept. 4. The game will have free post-launch characters, the first of which is Hawkeye. Fans should at least wait for the next War Table to check and see whether or not Spider-Man will be a part of the game.
