Don Lee is playing Gilgamesh
Lee, most famous internationally for his role in the South Korean zombie hit movie Train to Busan, is playing the warrior Gilgamesh in The Eternals.
Gilgamesh is also known as the Forgotten One in the source material comic book series. He possesses superhuman strength and impressive fighting skills that will likely put him in the ranks next to the best fighters in the MCU.
The Eternals added the actor to the cast in May 2019. According to Soompi, Gilgamesh is not Asian in the comic books, but Marvel made changes to the character, so they include the Korean star in the movie.
But who are these new MCU characters?
The Eternals have existed secretly in the Earth for more than 7,000 years. They are an immortal alien race who need to come out of the shadows after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
Chloé Zhao directs the movie from a screenplay by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. They adapted the stories of the original comic book creator, Jack Kirby.
Leading the cast of The Eternals is Angelina Jolie (Thena), Richard Madden (Ikaris), Kit Harington (Dane Whitman/The Black Knight), Salma Hayek (Ajak) and Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo). Also joining them are Gemma Chan (Sersi), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), Lia McHugh (Sprite), and Barry Keoghan (Druig).
The coronavirus lockdown interrupted filming for The Eternals for four months. In an interview with Comic Book, McHugh shared that the level of production for this superhero film is “so extravagant on so many things,” and she is excited to see the final results of their work coming together.
Originally, Marvel set The Eternals for a November 2020 debut, but the studio had to make changes to is MCU release dates due to the pandemic. The film will instead premiere on Feb. 12, 2021.
