After a year-long delay, Huawei has finally launched its MateBook 13. The new Huawei laptop is equipped with a 10th Generation Intel Core processor and 16GB of RAM.
Huawei, one of the Chinese tech giants, had initially planned to launch its laptops to the market in May last year.
Selected reporters were in the midst of testing one when the launch was canceled after the United States imposed trade sanctions on Huawei.
But as the saying goes, better late than never. The latest MateBook 13 laptop, as well as the MateBook D 15, is here at last.
MateBook 13 has the best chipset
Relatively compact and even cheaper than the Intel version, Huawei’s MateBook 13 presents itself configured with an AMD chipset and an entry-level Nvidia GeForce MX250 graphics chip.
We all know that Huawei’s smartphones are barred from using Google’s apps and services based on the US trade ban. Not with the MateBooks 13, which is to run the Windows 10 operating system.
According to Notebook Check, the Intel Core i5 (10th generation) costs more or less $1,010 while the AMD Ryzen R5 3500U version is approximately $112 cheaper. Therefore, for those people who don’t need that much storage, either can save another ~$56.
To sum it up, here are the two variants for the MateBook 13:
- Core i5 / 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD /
- Core i7 / 8GB RAM / 512GB SSD
The only inadequate aspect is the lack of the latest Wi-Fi 6 chipset. But all in all, the MateBook 13 offers excellent hardware specifications for its price.
The look of MateBook 13
The computer has an all-metal body finish, which makes the unit sturdy. The lid has a certain heft from its metal construction and glossy touchscreen.
When you look at Huawei’s MateBook 13 at first glance, you will see its similarity to Apple MacBook laptops because of its silver metallic design and diamond-cut corners. It looks simplistic yet premium, which is always a plus.
Checking out the monitor, you’ll see the 13.3-inch (that is why it is called “MateBook 13) 1440 x 2160 display surrounded by slim bezels, especially the two sides. The top bezel is slightly thicker due to the 1MP webcam located at the center of the head of the screen part.
Double the size of the top, and you’ll get the measurement of the bottom bezel, which is still comparatively slim. Note that this device sports a 3:2 aspect ratio — a different configuration than the general 16:9 display type.
