The MateBook X 2020, which succeeds the original MateBook X from 2017, is the first Windows laptop to feature a pressure-sensitive trackpad.
Huawei has officially launched the MateBook X 2020. Unveiled in China, the Chinese tech giant’s latest laptop succeeds the original variant announced in 2017.
While the MateBook X 2020 shares almost identical design and key specifications with the MateBook X Pro 2020, it still manages to stand out in the crowd with this one crucial feature.
MateBook X 2020: The world’s first Windows laptop with a pressure-sensitive trackpad
The Huawei MateBook X 2020 features a pressure-sensitive trackpad, making it the first Windows laptop to feature this hardware. Dubbed as “Free Touch,” the new technology is akin to Apple’s Force Touch trackpad, which is found on MacBooks. It is capable of detecting numerous levels of pressure and has a provision on vibration feedback.
The rest of the specifications of the device should be familiar to the series’ loyal fans. The laptop sports a 13-inch LTPS LCD touchscreen panel with a resolution of 3,000 x 2,000 pixels or 3K display. The screen also has a 3:2 aspect ratio, alongside a 90% screen-to-body ratio and 400 nits of brightness.
Other key display features include 100% sRGB color gamut, 1500:1 contrast ratio, 178-degree viewing angle, and 10-point multitouch.
Meanwhile, the body of the device boasts of magnesium-aluminum alloy and weighs about 1kg only. The device also measures 284.4 x 206.7 x 13.6 mm in dimensions. As it stands, the laptop is currently one of the slimmer iterations on the market, thanks to its use of a fan-less heat dissipation setup.
Up to 10th-generation Intel Core i7-1051U processor and 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM
Under the hood, the device is powered by up to 10th-generation Intel Core i7-1051U processor. This is then paired with up to 16GB LPDDR3 RAM and 512GB NVMe SSD storage. None of the variants, however, feature a dedicated GPU.
Other noted features of the laptop include four speakers, two microphones, a pop-up camera, a backlit chocolate keyboard, a fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.0. It also packs NFC, two USB Type-C ports, 3.5mm headphone jack, and 42Whr battery with support for 65W fast charging.

Pricing and availability
Huawei’s newest laptop is priced at CNY 7,999 for its Intel Core i5-1021U 8GB/512GB variant and tops up to CNY 9,999 for its Intel Core i7-1051U 16GB/512GB edition. It retails in four color variants – Cherry Blossom Powder, Mountain Daisy, Interstellar Blue, and Frost Silver.
The MateBook X 2020 is scheduled to go on sale until August 24 in China. There is no word yet in regards to its international availability.
