Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel are among the celebrities who have a long-standing comedic feud. The Martian actor took it up a notch by crashing the host’s big announcement.
Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel have been making fun of each other in the past years. In the last episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Damon made a surprising appearance.
Matt Damon crashed Jimmy Kimmel
On June 18, Jimmy Kimmel announced that he would be taking a couple of months off from his show. He assured fans that everything was fine, and he just needed a break to be with his family.
“Tonight is my last new show for the summer. I’m taking the summer off to take even more time with my family,” he said on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“I’ve been doing this job for almost 18 years, I’ve done 3,130 shows. There’s nothing wrong, I’m healthy, my family’s healthy, I just need a couple of months off.”
While Kimmel was speaking, Matt Damon appeared behind him, only wearing a bathrobe. The Ocean’s Eleven star said he had been in the room for three months and had been waiting to be on his show.
Kimmel getting a divorce
While the two men were talking, Jimmy Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney, entered the room, also wearing a bathrobe.
The host looked surprised and asked Matt Damon why his wife was in the same room where the actor came out.
“Why do you think she’s in the room?” Ben Affleck’s BFF answered back with a question.
Damon then called Molly and said he was on his way and left Kimmel wishing him a great summer.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live host yelled back at Damon with, “you have a great summer wherever you are going.”
“I will, I’m going into your wife,” Damon said.
“We’re going to take a break now. I’m sorry I had to see that. I am going to get a divorce and we’ll be back with Pharrell Williams,” Kimmel said to conclude the announcement.
Damon and Kimmel’s real score
Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel are good friends, and their public bantering is just for a show. Thus, their feud is fake.
According to Kimmel, it started after Damon’s appearance Jimmy Kimmel Live Season 3. Apparently, Damon bumped into him backstage. The host ended up mentioning their encounter the whole season while making fun of the actor.
“We had a bad show…The guests were bad, and I was feeling pretty bad about myself at the end of the program,” Kimmel told NPR in 2013.
“And I decided to say, for the amusement of one of our producers who was standing next to me…‘I want to apologize to Matt Damon. We ran out of time’…And he got a kick out of it, the producer, so I just started doing it every night to amuse him.”
