Mayim Bialik will start her hosting stint on Jeopardy! on Monday.
Mayim Bialik feels as excited as the past guest hosts as she finally stands behind the Jeopardy! podium.
On Monday, Bialik will follow the ensemble list of guest hosts after the death of original show host, Alex Trebek. The show already welcomed Ken Jennings, Richards, Katie Couric, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Aaron Rodgers, Anderson Cooper, and Bill Whitaker already.
As the second woman to host the show, the Big Bang Theory alum expressed her excitement to stand in Trebek’s place.
Bialik sees opportunity as an immense honor
On Saturday, prior to her appearance, he said in a Jeopardy! interview that it is an honor to follow the late show’s footsteps.
“This is such an iconic and unbelievable piece of our collective culture, to be considered to be part of it really in any way, it’s an immense honor. Especially for someone who’s dedicated so much of my life to academia to knowing things and to being able to communicate things,” she said.
She added that as a woman in academia, she has hopes she wishes to apply for her new role.
According to Call Me Kat star, she extremely wants to present herself as a woman of science. She noted that she did not grow up with female role models around her. But through her recent stint, she wants young people to know that women can be scientists too.
She added that it is important for her to show that women are capable of doing intellectual things, as well.
Bialik went on, “Also, as a second generation American whose grandparents on one side never fully mastered the English language, it’s just an unbelievable opportunity to see what in two generations my family has been able to see.”
What will happen during Bialik’s stint?
Like the previous guest hosts, she chose a particular charity where she will donate an amount of the cumulative earnings. The host then chose the National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, as the recipient.
Per Bialik, the alliance wholly supports and provides resources to those people living with mental illness. She revealed that she has been a dedicated supporter of NAMI for two decades that she refers people to the alliance regularly.
Although she feels excited, she also revealed that she’s feeling nervous, too. She detailed that people who guest hosted following Trebek also received great responsibility as a host.
