The Dimensity 820 chip is a more powerful version of the Dimensity 800, one with increased CPU and GPU performance.
MediaTek has expanded its Dimensity series of chipsets, with the official release of the Dimensity 820 SoC. The Taiwanese chip maker’s latest offering serves as a mildly upgraded version of the Dimensity 800, which was unveiled recently.
A more potent CPU and GPU output
While the Dimensity 820 is still based on a 7nm chip with Cortex-A76 and four A55 cores, the chip’s big A76 cores now run at higher clock speed, right at 2.6GHz. Additionally, the chipset features up to 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM.
The new chip’s accompanying Mali-G57 GPU also gained an additional core, which already up to 5. On paper, this should result in rendering games closer to the 120Hz refresh rate. Note that this should be paired with the right display panel. Ultimately, the resolution is still capped at 1080p+.
Other upgrades
Another upgrade of the Dimensity 820 chip is its modem, which is now capable of connecting two sim cards to a 5G network. There is also the 2CC carrier aggregation, alongside the 5G UltraSave technology for more seamless connectivity.
As for its photo and video front, the users can expect 32MP+16MP dual cameras. The chip can also support 80MP single cameras, with up to four concurrent sensors. A multi-frame 4K HDR recording is likewise recommended.
