Megan Thee Stallion had intended to release a remix of BTS’ Butter this Friday. Still, the rapper claims that her record company is delaying the release in a recent court petition.
Stallion has filed a suit in Harris County, Texas, saying that her record label 1501 Certified Entertainment and its CEO Carl Crawford are blocking her from releasing the song, according to paperwork filed Tuesday.
Pete’s fight for passion and career
According to the court filings, Stallion — whose birth name is Megan Pete — is requesting “immediate relief from the Court by this Friday, August 27, 2021, to allow her new song to be released this week as previously arranged.” Stallion claims in the filings that preventing the song’s publication will do irreparable harm to her career.
Pete’s music career will suffer irreparable damage, including a devastating impact on her relationships with her fans and other recording artists in the music industry, if she is not allowed to release a new track this Friday on which she is the featured artist in a remix with BTS of the song Butter, according to the document. “Money damages cannot compensate for such irreparable harm to her personal goodwill and the suppression of her artistic expression in music. As a result, Pete has petitioned this Court for immediate relief.”
A victorious Pete
Stallion has had legal issues with 1501 before; she sued the label last year for allegedly stopping her from releasing her EP Suga and was awarded a temporary restraining order; she is still under contract with 1501, with recordings released by 300 Entertainment, despite the legal action. According to the latest court filings, barring Stallion from releasing the Butter remix breaches the terms of last year’s interim restraining order.
The document states, “The release of new songs by Pete is important to retain her standing as a relatively young but still up and coming artist.” “Without urgent assistance from the Court, Pete’s work will be harmed, the song’s release will be stymied, and Pete’s goodwill, reputation, and overall career will suffer irreparable, harmful, and undesired harm.”
