Meghan Markle shows her support to Archie Williams, a competitor on America’s Got Talent.

The Duchess of Sussex and former actress Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance on America’s Got Talent TV show. Meghan displayed her full support to a finalist named Archie Williams.

The contestant who shares the same name with Prince Harry and Meghan’s son inspired the judges with his intense singing talent and life story.

Reports reveal that the Royal couple is following the series and loved Archie’s performances. In the video, the Duchess said:

“I just wanted to let you know that we’ve been so moved by your story and we’ve been cheering you on every week and it’s not just because we’re partial to the name. So, a very special message to you that I’ll probably be saying all my life, but this night it’s specifically for you: Archie, we are proud of you and are rooting for you, we can’t wait to see what you do. We’re in your corner, have a good night.”

The conviction and injustice Archie faced

In 1983, the 59-year-old AGT contestant was wrongfully accused of aggravated rape and attempted murder. During his trial, his family and friends testified that he was at home sleeping. Despite the family’s best efforts, he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

In 1995, he reached out to The Innocence Project to pardon him, leading for the outlet to revisit his case files. Moreover, Archie’s fingerprints and DNA were studies with the ones present on the crime scene. On March 14, 2019, he was proved innocent and got freedom.

However, it won’t change the fact that he spent more than 36 years behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit.

His elegant and alluring performances

The wrongfully convicted singer chose the song Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me by Elton John for his audition. Sure to his talent, his performance left the judges in tears.

When Terry Crews asked about his perseverance, Archie said that he never let his mind control him while in prison. And to find peace in dark times, he would pray and sing.

Simon Cowell said his performance gave a whole new meaning to the song, making it the most memorable audition experience of his life.

Earlier, the royal couple Meghan and Harry made a primetime TV debut to celebrate the release of TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people. As their speech went on, the couple pressed the importance of voting in the upcoming elections.
