Meghan Markle has become a royal after marrying Prince Harry and many want the Queen to strip them of their royal titles, but the duchess doesn’t have any, according to a royal expert.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are among the most popular royals when they were still in the U.K. However, their popularity dropped after they stepped back from their royal duties. Several royal fans want the Queen to remove them of their royal titles since they are no longer serving the monarchy.
Meghan Markle has no titles and styles of her own
Just recently, the duchess raised many eyebrows after writing a letter to Congress asking for parental paid leaves. While many appreciate the content of the letter, several were not happy that she signed it using her peerage title, the Duchess of Sussex.
Apparently, Markle has not broken any rules. She is still free to use the title because the Queen only forbids the Sussexes to use their HRH titles after the Megxit. But many wanted that Markle be stripped of all her royal titles.
Constitutional expert Iain MacMarthanne addressed the issue. Surprisingly, for many, there is nothing to be stripped of Markle, he told Express. According to MacMathanne, the people only assumed that the title was given to her. But in reality, all of her styles and titles are derived from her husband, Prince Harry. MacMarthanne concluded that “there is nothing to strip from her.”
Markle is also free to not use the titles. If she prefers to be known by her pre-marital name, she could also go by the said name, Rachel Meghan Markle.
Royals are expected to be politically neutral
Meghan Markle had been outspoken about her political views before she married Prince Harry. In her interview with Oprah Winfrey, she admitted that she was being “silence.” When she wrote a letter address to Congress it wasn’t a big surprise to many who know the duchess.
However, according to MacMarthanne, royals are expected to be politically neutral. However, according to royal biographer Robert Jobson, the Queen has always known about Meghan’s “political views and ambition.” The Harry’s War: The True Story of the Soldier author added that Markle’s political side could be “embarrassing” for the royals.
Jobson said the Queen feared that Markle is now free to say whatever she wants. Her Majesty allegedly knew that she would start talking about her political views and ambitions. The expert added that the duchess has been political since the time she wrote a letter to Hillary Clinton when she was 11.
