Meghan Markle is a fan of Angelina Jolie due to the latter’s charitable and humanitarian efforts, according to Finding Freedom.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s biography Finding Freedom was released last week. The publication by royal correspondents Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand revealed a lot of information about the couple, including how Angelina Jolie inspired the Duchess of Sussex’s “career model.”
Meghan Markle looks up to Angelina Jolie
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are popular for their charity works. They continue to work with various charities and organizations even after they left the royal family.
According to Finding Freedom, Angelina Jolie had something to do with Markle’s career and charity efforts.
“But she also looked up to actresses like Angelina Jolie, who had become a force of her own in the charitable space, focusing mostly on humanitarian projects that she interspersed with the more commercial ones, and funding her life with the occasional brand deal,” the book read per Express.
“At one point that was Meghan’s career model. But then she met Harry. If she was going to have a real future—and family with him, she had to give up acting altogether.”
Meghan was terrified to leave her acting career
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry met after making a big break in Hollywood for landing a role in Suits. Before that, Markle was struggling with her career.
She appeared on Deal or No Deal as one of the suitcase girls. It was difficult for her to leave the job she worked hard to be a full-time royal.
“Leaving acting, something she has so long working to achieve, was also ‘terrifying’ as she admitted to friends. At one point she had dreamed of moving into movies and meatier roles,” the book continued.
“As she moved into her mid-thirties, however, her dreams and aspirations started to change. A voice inside her kept telling her she could do so much more with her platform. That was one inspiration behind The Tig.”
Meghan was broke before meeting Prince Harry
Meghan Markle was struggling financially years before she met Prince Harry. There was a time she only had $20, and a director asked her to buy a cake to give her a role.
“I had $20 in my bank account,” Markle said in an interview in 2015.
“The director said, ‘You know I think you’re really something, but if you want to get the part you should bring me some cheesecake. And I was like, ‘I’m sorry?’ So I spent my last money on this cheesecake, and I didn’t get the part.”
