Meghan Markle is known for her lavish spending and experts believe that it is offensive to Queen Elizabeth II.
Meghan Markle is not new in the spotlight. As an actress, she knows that she has to invest in herself. This is evident in her signature wardrobe. However, not everyone approved it.
Meghan Markle spends too much
Meghan Markle has been photographed wearing expensive clothing and jewelry. In fact, she made headlines for spending thousands of dollars in just a matter of days during her baby shower in New York.
According to a report, her wardrobe at the time costs a third of the average U.K. salary. Markle reportedly spent $10,994.90 for her outfits while the average U.K. salary was $35,535.69.
Lebby Eyres from The Sun claimed that the duchess’ excessive spending was “likely to offend our frugal Queen.”
Unlike the Duchess of Sussex, the Queen settles with her old two-bar electric heater. She also wears the same Anello & Davide shoes until they wear out.
Duchess doesn’t need an expensive wardrobe
Due to Prince Harry’s wife’s luxurious clothing, some felt that she needed to show “a little self-restraint.”
Royal expert Ingrid Seward also reminded Markle that she doesn’t need to buy pricey items.
“Being royal isn’t all about wearing the most expensive clothes and jewellery,” Seward said. “It’s about representing the ‘family firm’, which means doing things with humility and dignity.”
Meghan Markle should learn from Kate Middleton
Kate Middleton is very popular for recycling outfits. While many popular figures fear to be photographed in the same outfit, Middleton takes pride in it. In fact, some dubbed the Duchess of Cambridge “thrifty Kate.”
Middleton also dresses her children with hand-me-downs. Princess Charlotte has been photographed wearing her big brother’s jumper. Prince Louis has photos wearing his older sibling’s top.
“Kate’s had years to understand. And she’s frugal by nature, making her children wear hand-me-downs. Meghan has to learn that,” royal commentator Angela Levin added.
Meghan vs Kate’s wardrobe expenses
Express compared Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s wardrobe expenses in 2018. The Duchess of Sussex topped the list with $517,000 worth of new clothing. The amount was six times more than the Duchess of Cambridge who only spent $87,000.
Markle’s wardrobe expenses at the time could be due to her taking more royal engagements. At the time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Tonga for their Commonwealth tour.
Meanwhile, Middleton had few engagements at the time because she was expecting Prince Louis. The duchess took maternity leave for a couple of months because she was suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum.
