Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated their second wedding anniversary on May 19. However, many still believed that their union wouldn’t last. A tabloid claimed that they were divorcing soon.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced in January that they were stepping back as senior members of the royal family and moved to Canada. In April, they officially became non-working royals.
Prior to that, they returned to the U.K. to carry out their final engagement. Then, the couple flew to the United States and opted to settle down in Los Angeles.
According to National Enquirer, Prince Charles wanted his youngest son to return home. And the heir apparent was not taking no for an answer.
“You must come home!”
Prince William’s brother refused to head back home because his wife needed him. However, the Prince of Wales reportedly ordered the RAF to fetch him. The duke eventually relented.
However, Markle didn’t make it easy for him. The Duchess of Sussex, allegedly, threw a hissy fit and gave him an ultimatum to choose her over the royal family.
The outlet claimed that a “reputable” source told them that the royal couple is on the brink of divorce.
“It’s been under strain for weeks as the reality of their new life hits home,” the source said.
“The big problem is whether their marriage will survive. If it goes downhill courtiers are bracing for a bitter divorce.”
One should take the reports with a grain of salt. First, Prince Charles didn’t set an RAF to fetch Prince Harry. There were no reputable outlets that reported it.
Second, it’s unlikely for Prince Charles to order Prince Harry to come back home. The Prince of Wales was already aware of his son’s decision before he moved to the U.S. because they had a meeting after the Sussexes announced that they were stepping back.
Third, it wasn’t the only claim that a royal is interfering with their marriage.
The same outlet also claimed that Queen Elizabeth II begged Prince Harry to divorce Meghan Markle. It quoted an unnamed source who alleged that the monarch wanted her grandson to dump Markle to save the royal family.
“She told Harry dumping his American bride was the only way to save the royal family – and himself,” the questionable source said.
On the contrary, the Queen approved Prince Harry and Markle’s decision. She was also supportive of them, so the outrageous claim was not true.
