Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been very outspoken about the U.S. election and a Republican lawmaker wants them to stop interfering or be stripped of their royal titles, but many defended them.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been encouraging the people to vote. They also said something that many deemed was against Donald Trump. Republican Congressman Jason Smith reacted by writing a letter to the Queen requesting her to stop the Sussexes’ interference or strip them of their royal titles.
Netizens reacted to Smith’s request and many of them backed Markle and Prince Harry.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are free to speak
Several netizens supported the royal couple because for them, they didn’t do anything wrong. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle remain non-partisan because they didn’t endorse any candidate.
Also, Markle is an American citizen, so she is entitled to be involved. Meanwhile, her husband is also entitled to his own opinion. Due to Smith’s request, one was wondering if Smith was taking away the freedom of speech.
“Meghan Markle is an American citizen and can express her opinion if she wants to. No where does she mention Trump but if that’s Jason’s takeaway, he has a bigger problem. Also, does Jason Smith condon hateful rhetoric?” another added.
Meanwhile, some just laughed off at Smith’s request because again Markle is an American citizen. They agree that the duchess can campaign and talk as much as she wishes.
Another also said Markle’s association with the royal family doesn’t diminish her right as an American.
Meanwhile, another user called Smith “misinformation” because, for them, Markle and Prince Harry didn’t interfere with the election. They are just encouraging people to exercise their constitutional rights by voting.

What did Smith write in the letter
Rep. Jason Smith pointed out Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s statement urging the Americans to vote. He also noted how the duchess considered the upcoming election the “most important election of our lifetime.”
For him, the couple’s actions are a serious breach of the British Royal Family’s policy to be politically neutral. He also claimed that not stopping the Sussexes’ interference would mean that the British Government condones the royal couple’s actions.
Palace’s reaction
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were criticized when they started talking about the U.S. election. In fact, some reached out to the Queen for comments about their actions.
A palace source told The Sun that the palace would not comment because Prince Harry and Markle are no longer working royals. Also, their comments were made in a personal capacity.
